How we work

Year-round tax work — not a once-a-year scramble.

  1. Plan early

Call us before the year closes. We plan on the front end to minimize what you owe and what you have to report.

  2. Prepare every return

Federal, state, payroll, sales and franchise — we calculate, prepare and file, so nothing slips between agencies.

  3. Stand beside you

Exam, collection notice, back taxes or an amended year: we represent you. The odds are we’ve dealt with the problem before.

REIT practice · since 1993

A REIT keeps its status one test at a time. We’ve run them for three decades.

Mike Crisler headed corporate tax at Healthcare Realty Trust, a real estate investment trust. Connie Seal spent 24 years there, rising from senior in corporate tax to VP of Tax. That in-house experience runs uninterrupted from 1993 — formation, acquisitions, dispositions and the recurring monitoring a REIT can’t skip.

Our founder

Ernst & Young training. REIT tax leadership. Your CPA since 2003.

Mike Crisler spent fifteen years in the rooms where complex tax decisions get made before opening his own firm. Every client still gets that judgment — whether the question is a choice of entity, an acquisition or this April’s return.

  1. 1988

Joins the Nashville tax practice of Ernst & Whinney — six years advising multi-state companies, start-ups and pre-IPO businesses, with a real-estate specialty.

  2. 1994

Moves to Healthcare Realty Trust. Heads corporate tax, financial planning and IT; designs its tax and information-reporting compliance systems.

  3. 2003

Leaves as a senior vice president and founds Crisler CPA, PLLC.

  4. Today

Tennessee CPA and Chartered Global Management Accountant. Serves on the board of a subsidiary of a Fortune 50 equipment manufacturer.

Questions

What people ask before they call.

Still unsure? Call either office — a short conversation usually settles it.

Who does Crisler CPA work with?

Individuals, families and fiduciaries, small and mid-sized businesses, non-profit organizations, and real estate investment trusts (REITs). Clients across Middle Tennessee work with our Hendersonville and Brentwood offices.

Where are your offices?

We have two offices in the Nashville area: Hendersonville, north of Nashville on Maple Row Boulevard, and Brentwood, south of Nashville on Winners Circle North. Call either office to set up an appointment.

When should I contact a CPA about my taxes?

Early. We recommend contacting us before year-end so we can plan to minimize your tax and reporting obligations on the front end, then calculate and report everything correctly on the back end.

Can you help if I get an IRS or state notice, or owe back taxes?

Yes. Problem resolution is part of our tax practice for both businesses and individuals: representation in examinations and collection actions, preparing or amending prior-year returns, and arranging a plan to pay back taxes.

Do you offer bookkeeping, payroll and part-time CFO support?

Yes. We provide full-charge bookkeeping, payroll recordkeeping and reporting, QuickBooks set-up and support, budgets and forecasts, financial statements, and interim or part-time CFO services. You decide how involved we are, from daily to once a year.

Do you work with real estate investment trusts?

Yes. The firm’s REIT experience runs uninterrupted from 1993, covering REIT qualification testing, dividend tax-status reporting, federal and state returns, E&P reports, income-tax accounting, GAAP-to-taxable and FFO reconciliations, and acquisition due diligence.

How do I check on my federal tax refund?

Use the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool at irs.gov/refunds. If something looks wrong, call our office and we will look into it with you.
